Data Scientist/Developer

Alex Devoid is a Data Scientist/Developer at Urban3, where he specializes in building Python geoprocessing tools that he and his colleagues use to refine complex data into insights for Urban3’s clients.

Prior to his current role, Alex was a data-driven Reporter for Arizona’s largest newspapers, The Arizona Republic and The Arizona Daily Star. He reported on critical issues ranging from the urban heat island effect to weapon smuggling, utilizing data visualization and analysis to craft award-winning investigative stories that informed and engaged the public.

Earlier in his career, Alex contributed to international health initiatives as a Program Organizer for Acción Médica Cristiana in Nicaragua. In this capacity, he led medical delegations, facilitated communications, and supported community health education.

Alex holds dual Master’s degrees in Journalism and Latin American Studies from the University of Arizona. His technical skills include Python, R, JavaScript, and various GIS tools, enabling him to address diverse data challenges across different sectors.
